Each month the Current Employment Statistics (CES) program surveys approximately 143,000 businesses and government agencies, representing approximately 588,000 individual worksites, in order to provide detailed industry data on employment, hours, and earnings of workers on nonfarm payrolls.
NEW CES vintage data tables that display the published employment values for a given reference month across time
Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 223,000
in April, and the unemployment rate was essentially
unchanged at 5.4 percent. Job gains occurred in
professional and business services, health care, and
construction. Mining employment continued to decline.
