Corrections to Current Employment Statistics Data

Estimates of women employees in the U.S. Postal Service and some related series from the Current Employment Statistics survey were corrected on May 25, 2012. BLS staff discovered data-processing errors that occurred during the November 2009–April 2012 period which resulted in an incorrect ratio of women employees to all employees. The correction increased the number of women employees in the U.S. Postal Service by 64,000, not seasonally adjusted, as of February 2012, but did not affect total employment levels.

Series of women employees were corrected for the U.S. Postal Service, federal government, government, service-providing, and total nonfarm. These more expansive series on women employees were affected only to the extent of the errors occurring in the U.S. Postal Services women employee series. Not seasonally adjusted series were corrected back to November 2009, while seasonally adjusted data were revised back to January 2002. Notes were added to the affected Employment Situation news releases. Total employment (jobs held by men and women combined) for all series including the Postal Service are correct as originally published.
