Each day has a special schedule devoted to informative & practical sessions.
DAY 1: Sessions designed for the brand-new or novice user
- Basic info about the CE
- Content and organization of microdata files
- Creation of data sets within and across files
- Topcoding and other confidentiality measures
- Hands-on training in our computer classrooms
DAY 2: Research sessions highlighting uses of the data
- Presentations by users in government and academia
- Use of CE data by BLS Regional Offices
- Tips on publishing your research in the Monthly Labor Review
- “Sneak peek” at future developments in the CE
DAY 3: Sessions designed for the more experienced user
- Derivation and use of weights for estimation of means and variances
- Using the multiply-imputed income variables properly
- Treating interviews independently vs. linking them across quarters
- How sales taxes are applied to reported expenditures
- Topics suggested by you, the experienced user
- Hands-on training in our computer classrooms
The workshop is free to all participants.
