Enable JavaScript in your Browser

The BLS website uses JavaScript to bring you various features. JavaScript is a software technology needed on most web pages for buttons, online forms, and other content to work properly. Important: Disabling JavaScript will cause some sites to not work properly. Click on the name of your browser to view instructions for enabling JavaScript.


Note: To determine your browser version, click on “Help” in the menu bar of your browser and then select “About...”.

Internet Explorer 7.x for Windows

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Select Internet Options from the Tools menu.
  3. Click the Security tab.
  4. In the Security level for this zone box, click on Custom level.
  5. Scroll toward the bottom of the Settings box to Scripting.
  6. Enable active scripting.
  7. Click OK twice to close the dialogue.
  8. Click the Refresh button after the Address Bar at the top of your browser, or hit F5.

Internet Explorer 5.x-6.x for Windows

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Select Internet Options from the Tools menu.
  3. In Internet Options dialog box select the Security tab.
  4. Click Custom level button at bottom. The Security Settings dialog box will pop up.
  5. Under Scripting category enable Active Scripting, Allow paste options via script and Scripting of Java applets.
  6. Click OK twice to close out.
  7. Hit Refresh.

Internet Explorer 5.x for Mac OS/X

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Select Preferences from the Explorer menu.
  3. Click the arrow next to Web Browser.
  4. Click Web Content.
  5. Under Active Content check Enable Scripting.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Refresh.

Internet Explorer 5 for Mac OS/9

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Select Preferences from the Edit menu.
  3. Click the arrow next to Web Browser.
  4. Click Web Content.
  5. Under Active Content check Enable Scripting.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Refresh.

Netscape 7.X

  1. Open Netscape.
  2. Select Preferences from the Edit menu.
  3. Click the arrow next to Advanced or double click on Advanced to open sub menu below it.
  4. Click Scripts & Plugins.
  5. Check Navigator beneath “Enable Javascript for”.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Reload.

Netscape 6.x for Mac OS/X

  1. Open Netscape.
  2. Select Preferences from the Edit menu.
  3. Click Advanced.
  4. Check both Enable Java and Enable JavaScript for Navigator.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Reload.

Mozilla FireFox 1.5.x

  1. Open FireFox.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. Click the Content tab on the top.
  4. Check the box for Enable Javascript.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Reload.

Mozilla FireFox (Prior Versions)

  1. Open FireFox.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. Click Web Features in the Options list.
  4. Under the Web Features section, check the box next to Enable Javascript.
  5. Click the Advanced button to open the Advanced JavaScript Options box.
  6. Check the boxes under Allow scripts to section that you want to allow.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click Reload.

Safari 3.x for Windows

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Select Preferences from the Safari menu.
  3. Click Security.
  4. Check both Enable Java and Enable JavaScript in the Web content section.
  5. Close the window.
  6. Click Refresh.

Safari 2 for Mac OS/X

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Select Preferences from the Safari menu.
  3. Click Security.
  4. Check both Enable Java and Enable JavaScript.
  5. Close the window.
  6. Click Reload.
