Nonfatal Occupational Injuries and Illnesses Requiring Days Away From Work, 2007 was reissued on March 31, 2009 to correct selected data within the mining and railroad industries misclassified by BLS. These corrections resulted in minor changes for the category musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and selected nature, event or exposure, and source categories. Corrections have been made to the text of the release in the first bullet under Key Findings and in the MSD section; charts A and B; and tables 5, 6, 7, 11, 16, 18, 19, 20, 22, and 23. The corrected news release is available at www.bls.gov/iif/oshwc/osh/case/osnr0031.pdf. Corrected resource tables are available at www.bls.gov/iif/oshcdnew.htm. The online CH database, accessible at data.bls.gov/GQT/servlet/InitialPage, was corrected on March 31, 2009.
Within the mining (NAICS 21) and railroad transportation (NAICS 482) industries, the following Occupational Injury and Illness Classification (OIICS) categories were revised:
The revisions in these categories occurred only within the Mining (NAICS 21) and Rail Transportation (NAICS 482) industries. The total number of days-away-from-work and rate for these two industries remained unchanged. The nature category sprains, strains, tears is a component of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and therefore is also affected by the revisions. Estimates for other categories, when cross-tabulated with these corrected categories, may be affected also.
