About May 2003 National, State, and Metropolitan Area Occupational Employment and Wage Estimates

Estimates for residual, "All Other", occupations are not available.

(1) Estimates for detailed occupations do not sum to the totals because the totals include occupations not shown separately. Estimates do not include self-employed workers.

(2) Annual wages have been calculated by multiplying the hourly mean wage by a "year-round, full-time" hours figure of 2,080 hours; for those occupations where there is not an hourly mean wage published, the annual wage has been directly calculated from the reported survey data.

(3) The relative standard error (RSE) is a measure of the reliability of a survey statistic. The smaller the relative standard error, the more precise the estimate.

(4) Hourly wage rates for occupations where workers typically work fewer than 2,080 hours per year are not available.

(5) This wage is equal to or greater than $70.00 per hour or $145,600 per year.

(6) Estimates not released.

(7) Due to a processing error, the May 2003 estimates do not reflect about 10,000 Federal government and U.S. Postal Service employees in South Dakota. This error affects the occupational employment and earnings estimates both for South Dakota and for the U.S. as a whole, though the impact on the latter is likely to be negligible. These employees will be included in the estimates for November 2003. BLS regrets any inconvenience this error might have caused data users. For further information, call the Division of Occupational Employment Statistics at 202-691-6569.
